general cinema

Here's another successful image taken with the pintoid camera. Again, the subject's not much-just an old boarded up movie theater-but I just love the way the film looks. The photograph doesn't have a definite edge, running even into the sprocket holes of the film. It's that look that I'm going for...if i could just cut down on the light leaks then I may just be onto something.

galoshes

I'm secretly working on a project called life...it's tough, but this would be one of the pictures to go into that project: my son's rubber boots. It's the little things-you know. It's the little things.

baby phat

How is this not the picture of the day?! Or the week! Ewan was especially dirty today, coupled with just his jean shorts, I thought it was a good picture opportunity. I had taken a few candid ones when I noticed his tiny butt crack peeking out. Amused I made him look towards the fence when he turned around to look at the camera... Golden.

the public market

Me and another photographer are working on a commissioned project photographing local architecture. This is the public market building near down town Fort Worth. I did portraits here before (my very first post on this blog) and loved the building. So, I went back and did some just of the building itself.

These decorative sculptures were on the sides of all the entrances, and the building in the distance is a tower that stands central to the wings.

I wanted the empty space to give the architecture more of an emphasis and impact.

aquarium

Another picture from my trip to Baton Rouge. We took the boys to the BR zoo, and part of their remodel is a new reptile/amphibian/fish/insect house...or whatever. Anyway, I had tried this shot before with no luck. Either both boys weren't in it or other kids were in it...anyway it finally worked out this time.

Christine and Mike

Christine and Mike are getting married in Mexico this summer! buuuut before that, they decided to get engagements done. These were taken during my trip to Louisiana. I hadn't seen Christine in seven or so years, it was nice to catch up.

We were downtown Baton Rouge, right around the levee and the capitals.

I really like this one.

Their only real 'serious' one.

One of my favorites.

OLDsmobile

Check this out! While out looking for clunky old cars semi buried in forgotten woods I found a car grave site. There were four old cars (and a few more about fifty yards off) grouped together. I set up my tripod and started pressing the shutter. Only when I was walking to my car did I think I should at least try to find out what sort of cars these were (I'm not a car guy-at all). That's when I discovered this shot. I had to get down on my belly, and used my elbows to keep steady, but I got it! How cool is that!? Maybe it's me, but I'm a sucker for old junk!

point of view

I made it back home yesterday, and amidst the unpacking, and cleaning, and getting back into life I'll be posting pictures from the trip here and there. I decided to start with this one which was my favorite view while on the trip. lying down with my feet propped up on the chain of the porch swing and having nothing to do-really-but slowly drift back and forth. aah...

Anyway, it was a good trip. Later on I'll be posting some from the engagement session I did- which turned out great! as well as a few from the project I'm working toward. So stay tuned!

i'm off!!

It's spring break here in Fort Worth, Texas, so me and my boys are heading down to Louisiana to try and find some fresh boiled crawfish and a good home cooked meal. If I'm able to, I'll be posting pictures along the way, but since my parents don't really have the internet it may be a challenge. Anyway, expect the unexpected. I'll post again as soon as I can. See y'all then.

Samuel Adams

Say hello to little Sam Adams. At one month old he's a whopping six pounds! How tiny! I showed up to his house and he was wide awake, but by the time I hauled in my camera gear and got set up he had fallen fast asleep. He slept through the entire session and didn't wake again until I packed my camera in its bag and put in my backseat. That's okay, though, I'll see him again in a couple of months.

the basket

Another photograph from my series on Louisiana. Next week I'll be making another trip to the state so don't expect a post for a little while, but when I get back I should have a few favorites to share. I say a few because I don't want to give away too much this early in the project, then why would you buy the book?

This image is of the basketball goal that stood outside my trailer home for years. Now it's molded and rotten of course. I took this with my Holga (one camera I wouldn't trade for anything), had the negative scanned, and here it is untouched except for a bit of a sepia tone.

fenceline

I live on the very edge of town. So, literally if I take a right at the end of my street I'll be headed toward down town. If I take a left, ranch homes, wide open spaces, and sky. This fence actually borders a golfing range about a mile and a half down from my house. I pulled over to photograph it because of the texture, but I also liked a wide-angle shot of the three corner posts, the dead grass, and blue sky. So they're both here. I don't like to shoot without having a theme, or purpose in mind. These two images together could easily be metaphorically Texas: rough, worn, sun damaged, yet durable, reliable. Well, maybe the way Texas markets itself anyway.

pintoid

You could call it a pinhole camera, or an Altoids tin, but it's commonly called a Pintoid camera. A pinhole camera made out of an Altoids tin. I've been shooting with it for the past few days, but it uses film of course, so I haven't been able to post anything I've taken with it yet. I still haven't finished the roll that's in the one you see. Once I do, I'm going to get it processed and then get a contact sheet printed. So, it may be a week or two before I get to actually see results. Anyway, I promised everyone I'd post a picture of it. So here you go.

snails -n- things

I finally took the time to piece together a photo series I've had in mind for a little while. My son is constantly bringing me empty little snail shells he discovers in the backyard. I often thought it would be cool to photograph them, to create a 'still life' looking photo. Today, I found some shells bigger than the little small round ones he usually finds. Inspired, I had him help me hunt up some of the little ones and I arranged them on the backdrop (a blue fisher price sand and water table), used natural light, got as close as I could get (without a macro lens), and snapped off a few shots. I cropped in a little closer later on photoshop and of course converted the images to black and white. The flowers are these little white weeds that he picks for either me or his mother-nearly every day. Anyway, I hope you like it.
