amber and josh

Amber and Josh got married this weekend at the Dallas Arboretum. The ceremony was very simple and the setting was beautiful. I actually shot as a second photographer for Brian Krause of Krauzian Image. Brian and I go back a little ways (he actually shot my first wedding) so it was cool shooting beside him again. Anyway, here are some of my favorite shots from the wedding day. And yes, they are hula-hooping.

I helped shoot a wedding at the Dallas Arboretum this weekend. It was...amazing! Those pictures are coming very soon, in the mean time here is a helpless creature I found nibbling on something right before the bride walked out...

neon bloom

Orchids. I shot them a little mysteriously to add to the 'fine art' factor of the photograph. I also enhanced the colors (but only a little, they really are maroon and yellow) in photoshop and re-cropped for the vertical image. Today I'm shooting a wedding with a friend of mine. I'm very excited, and will have those images up as soon as I can. Everyone have a happy Memorial Day weekend!

tiger in sepia

An abstract shot of a tiger lilly bought for Monica (hey Monica!!), which is now being neglected because she's in Houston and not home taking care of her lilly. That's okay, I guess, because it will live on through the blog!! I've been experimenting with these floral photos lately, and I'm trying to capture something a little more mysterious and suggestive in these photos. For instance, these are petals of a tiger lilly, but they can also pass for ocean waves from an old Japanese painting. I don't know...

Traveler

Part two from my photos from the Moda Fashion Show: The band called Traveler closed for the night, and-lucky me-I happen to KNOW THEM PERSONALLY. Okay, so I'm not that cool. They make me move all their equipment and get them drinks and water at exactly 72 degrees or ELSE. No, really, we had a great time and (I know they're a little late) here are some of my favorite shots from the evening.

moda

A local salon, spa, and yoga center recently held a hair and fashion show to help raise money for the ongoing effort to rebuild New Orleans, a city that still has yet the ability to stand up on it's own two feet. A couple bands opened and closed for the fashion show (those pics will be up next) but here are a few of my favorites from the fashion show itself.

for monica

Monica, a good friend of mine, commissioned a fine art piece from me to match a painting she already owns. My piece needed to compliment the colors, mood, texture, tone of the other piece. So, besides just posting the finished photograph, I thought it'd be cool to see the images used to create it.
Starting with the flower:
Then, I photographed the facade of some slate to superimpose over the image for texture. Before it was all said and done, I tinted the slate a deep blue (to match the color scheme of her room). Then, I added a bit of photoshop magic and I borrowed a few words from Walt Whitman that seemed fitting and:
The finished piece!

orchid in green

My girlfriend doesn't usually go for the typical dozen roses. We are both very artsy in our tastes in art, style, decor, etc. So, when the opportunity arises that I buy her flowers (and I am a man, so the opportunity always arises) I find nontraditional flowers. That's when I found this guy. An orchid in an emerald green vase. I back lit this image using window light. The vase was setting on a clear cup, and I just photoshopped the cup out in post production.

(insert creative title here)

Hey, everybody! Here's another floweredy pic. Sorry so blunt, but I'm not feeling very creative this morning. Anyway, I hope you guys like the floral series. Still more to come!
