dustin perkins :: bag of bones tour

Now that announcements have been officially made and photographs on Dustin's website have been updated I can post an image I've been sitting on since the day we shot it.  The same day of Dustin's Words photo shoot we shot for his up and coming Bag of Bones tour.  Since his tour has a man-on-his-own-playing-guitar-on-the-road-vagabond sort of feel to it, we shot aiming for that same concept.  Dustin, being the good sport that he is, rolled around in a dirt pile before the shoot and stared right into the sun several times over for me.  As rigs flew by us and commuters wondered what the hell two guys are doing standing practically in the median of an interstate during rush hour in the middle of Texas June temperatures, we shot pictures hoping for something that seemed rugged and epic and movie poster cool.  I think we nailed it.

If you want your very own copy of this photograph you can go to www.dustinperkinsmusic.com and click on the link to help support Dustin on the Bag of Bones Tour.  A donation of $5 or more gets you a postcard from wherever he's at on the road.  The tour doesn't start 'til August 22nd, so don't forget.  In fact, set a reminder on your phone now and get Dustin to his next gig.  A big thank you to Dustin and producer Greg White for letting me be so involved on this album and tour.  It's been-and still is-a blast.

dustin perkins :: portraits :: promo

I recently had the honor of working with Oklahoma musician Dustin Perkins on his up and coming album "Words".  Not only was I in charge of the layout but I was also able to draw all of the artwork for the album's cover material. As if that wasn't cool enough they let me go even further and asked me to come up with a conceptual photo shoot that would have the same aesthetic as the album's cover.

Working with Dustin is always great.  He's easy going, charming, and you can tell he really has a passion for his, what I'm sure is often difficult-career choice.  But it seems like he would never want to live a minute doing anything else.  His music and song writing is superb and I invite everyone to get a copy of his album.  It will be available on August 17th.  If you want to see more of Dustin click---->here.  But make sure you check his pictures out below first.

Words album artwork, a collaboration of Dustin Perkins, my wife Ashley, and myself.

Polaroid taken during the promo shoot.  Literally only found here on this blog.

music to my eyes

Buddy of mine Greg White of SG Studios is making a few changes to his website-namely making it mobile friendly, among other things-and asked me to shoot some promo stuff for the 'net.  The chance to shoot his studio is one thing, but the opportunity to shoot portraits of a good friend of mine is another.  Here's a few shots from the day.  Also, visit www.soundsgreatstudios.com to see and hear both of our work.

catch daddy o

Recently did some promo work for a jazz/blues band (correct me if I'm wrong Karen!) named Catch Daddy O. We shot on location at a little venue called Mambos in downtown Fort Worth. Great atmosphere, great lighting, great artwork on the wall, great food, but go for the music!

Traveler

Part two from my photos from the Moda Fashion Show: The band called Traveler closed for the night, and-lucky me-I happen to KNOW THEM PERSONALLY. Okay, so I'm not that cool. They make me move all their equipment and get them drinks and water at exactly 72 degrees or ELSE. No, really, we had a great time and (I know they're a little late) here are some of my favorite shots from the evening.

jazz on the boulevard

This photograph was taken last year at the annual Jazz Fest held here in Fort Worth, Texas. I went with a buddy of mine and we just sat there on the grass in front of the stage and shot away. All was shot with ambient light, so the color photograph is saturated in red stage lights. I actually was conflicted about whether or not to make it black and white or leave the red. But, when in doubt, always go black and white. It's classical, it's vintage, it's always in style, much like the music itself. The one thing I would change if I could? I'd had moved that water bottle...eh, nobody's perfect.
