crayons

I often take a subject that gets stuck in my head, and then explore it's fine art possibilities through photography. Sometimes these projects actually get finished...mostly I loose my steam half way through. I've discovered that I'm like a cheetah-being able to top my creative momentum in short bursts-before I get bored, or disinterested and move on to the next series. It's quite a serious problem. I've been working on a book centered on Louisiana for going on year four, but I'm not giving up! Anyway, currently I'm working on several of these smaller art pieces at a time right now, one of which is all about crayons. I shoot my fine art pieces with film and process and develop them the old way, but I usually use my digital camera to preview it because I do get anxious to see the final shot. Here are a few outtakes and test shots from the crayon series I'm focused on.

update

Thanks to everyone who still checks my blog though there's nothing there to see. I seem to have these blogging streaks of greatness where I blog like a madman then almost altogether drop it. It's not so much for lack of inspiration or photos, trust me, I've just been channeling my energy elsewhere. I made a promise not too long ago for some fine art pieces...they're on the way, please keep the faith.

I have a show coming up in August (maybe mid July-I'll keep you updated) at a local Starbucks, and everyone who reads these words should be there. More details to come soon about time and place, etc. Until then, though, enjoy your summer and hopefully soon I'll have some images posted to accompany the heat.

Thanx, ~b

queen tribute

So, during some down time at a prom, me and my fellow photographers found some can lights in the ceiling and posed for the classic Queen album cover photo. After a little photoshop work, here is our own album cover. Enjoy.

leaves

For artwork to hang in our recently remodeled bathroom I photographed some leaves. Yeah, it's as simple as that. Sometimes I just let the minimalist in me take over.

slip and slide

I love these shots of the boys. Every summer there's this unofficial ushering in of the season when we turn on the sprinklers, or break out the slip and slide, or whatever, and just let the kids do what they do best, which is have fun. I take pictures like this every time, but every time they're great. In just one frame of the boys I capture everything summer is supposed to feel like: being outside, the hot weather, cooling off, relaxing or playing... Well, everything that Old Navy commercials tell you what summer's supposed to feel like.

crawfish boil

Sorry for my absence everyone, been busy working and working towards certain projects. But, thought I'd do my thing here and bring a little bit of Louisiana back to Texas with this shot of a big ol' pile of crawfish just waiting to be de-tailed, peeled, and eatin'. Man, dat's good stuff!

suburban school

So, went walking through the neighborhood the other day, and just happened upon a vintage school desk just sittin' out in somebody's yard. So, what does a school desk need? A school boy. Ewan was just the right size.

masquerade

Another cool shot taken at the prom.
Lately I've been getting a bug in me to emphasis the 'art' in artbrandphoto and come up with more 'fine art' photographs. These will be displayed soon enough. It involves things I love such as: post cards, Polaroids, coffee, crayons, etc. And maybe a weird black thing...more later.

at the prom

I photographed these calla lilies at a prom last Saturday night. The event was held at the Waxahatchie Civic Center and in the main foyer was this huge arrangement of calla lilies front and center. I had crouched down beside the arrangement to get a low angle shot of the kids walking down the hallway when I look up to see these flowers just begging to be photographed. The light and tone of the shot was quite unexpected, and I'm not so sure about the white orb in the background. Without knowing the back story of the photo, does that look like a moon-or a light? But the flowers are beautiful-and I don't even know if they are real.
