Again, some pics from my last trip home, but this time no sepia. These are just some shots I took from the front and back porches around my parent's house. I loved the color of the flowers and the texture of the old bird bath. Anyway...enjoy.
Another photo I'd put in life's photo album: What does it take to be a pirate? 1. get a handkerchief (preferably one with a skull and crossbones or some sort on it). 2. tie it around your head. 3. run around saying "argh!" 4. die when you're stabbed by your little pirate brother and his plastic sword. That last step is when I took this picture.
I've shot within the Fort Worth Club many times. Usually for proms or homecoming dances (such as tonight) and other times for wedding receptions or the such. Tonight I stood in the 12th floor window and just watched as people swam in The Tower pool, drove down the street, walked across parking lots, and went about their daily lives without them even thinking that I, nor anyone else, would've been watching them. This was taken at the same time, at about seven or so p.m., when the sun was disappearing behind some clouds and just glinting the edges of the twin buildings down town.
I enjoy trips to Louisiana, they allow me to post new stuff for days. Along the Mississippi River in down town Baton Rouge there's a pier you can walk out on and there's a great view of the Mississippi River bridge (aptly named). Well, on your way to the end of the pier there's these huge metal arches that extend way up into the air. This is the view you'd see if you simply looked up. It's really too nothing great, but it's a new post and an interesting shot, so there you have it. Later...
Taken while I walked around down town in Baton Rouge with Erika and Daniel shooting their engagements (which will be here soon), this is the old state capital of Louisiana. I've always loved this building and one day hope to actually find the time to really photograph the place. But, on this day I only had time to quickly grab a shot and then move on.
The first official post from my trip to Louisiana, as the title suggests, here's my Dad. He had just cut down a tree in the field behind the house and had walked over to the shade for a breather. I took three shots and this was my favorite.
Tomorrow I leave for Louisiana! I'm photographing Erika's engagements (congrats)! I won't be back in town 'til Monday night so don't expect a new post until then. The shot I'm posting is from a previous trip taken probably two or three years ago. I actually shot a roll of this house and picked four from the roll to make a series of images just focusing on this old home. I remember walking around the house and finding this little chip in the wood that was surprisingly bright orange and I thought the contrast between the orange and the weather beaten faded green was perfect, almost a painting. I shot with 120 Fuji velvia film ISO 100 and simply scanned a print with my home scanner. I tweaked it a bit in photoshop to the true green and orange of the print. I'll have more when I get back!
The shot of the day comes from the backyard at the studio I work for. I was testing out the limitations of the macro function on a 28-105 lens with surprising results. There were about a dozen or so extreme close ups of some ivy, some ants, some dollar weed, but I thought that this was the most interesting. The only retouching I did was darken the background to a solid black to help give the flower our undivided attention. I'm not usually a 'nature' or 'flower' photographer, generally I shoot with a certain purpose-or project-in mind. But, this is the only thing I brought home with my camera so I figure I should share it.
