back porch wildlife

This was taken practically on the back porch steps of my in-laws place.  I like this picture because of the crane, if the crane wasn't in this picture, it'd be a pretty boring picture.

love bugs

Working for my day job, a friend of mine and I found these two moths going at it, we assumed. So, being slightly immature, but just slightly, we photographed them. The result, quite honestly is a very handsome portrait of nature blending in with it's surroundings. This shot reminded me a lot of another photographer's work, Art Wolfe's book Vanishing Act. The book has awesome pictures of animals simply disappearing into their environment. I'm no Art Wolfe, but hey, can't blame a photographer for trying.

bayou birds

Right before I get on the interstate to head north towards home (driving home from Louisiana) there's a little marsh area with those trees you always see in photographs and pictures when people are trying to capture the essence of a Louisiana bayou. Well, as I was leaving town I happened to look to my right and saw about two dozen of these cranes or egrets (I'm not quite sure) scattered throughout the trees along the highway. I passed them first, turned around, and hopped out of the car to get this shot. Technically, it's not perfect, it was hand held and shaky, but I couldn't miss the opportunity. Even this photograph really doesn't capture the number of the birds that were there, but it'll give you an idea. I just thought it was cool to see so many birds just hanging out, yards away from a busy, backwoods highway.

bass pro shop

I realize I may be revealing a little more of myself than I should, but-yes-on my recent trip home to Louisiana I visited the new Outdoor World a.k.a. the new huge Bass Pro Shop that recently opened near my hometown. I will also confess another truth: it really is an amazing building...for those of you that may hunt or fish or do other outdoorsy things.

I find this funny: ducks flying away from a giant word reading "HUNT".
I stared down this wild boar, and won.
This is a mountain lion I captured on my most recent hiking trip (ignore the exit sign).
The place is covered with mounted animals, all surrealy placed in the midst of clothes, shoppers, fishing gear, outdoor grills, etc.

Aahhh, nothing better to bring families together than the bass pro shop. I hope you enjoyed my small photographic tour.
