I used to be a writer. I mean, not professionally or anything, but it's a craft I didn't pursue for the want of another craft. I enjoy writing, and do occasionally, but it's in another whole department, two stories up and to the right, that merits its' own time and attention . I don't marry the two often on my blog for reasons 1. Too many words is daunting for those that just want to see photos. 2. Reasons stated above: to write, and write well, takes a bit more time and effort than what I can afford sometimes. So, I keep it short and sweet here on the blog. I hope that's cool.

The photo below...I know it looks like Louisiana, but it's good ol' Mineral Wells, my photographic home away from home. There's a few towns like that here in Texas, Millsap immediately comes to mind, towns where, if I get the itch to get back in touch with the rural, I can take a twenty five minute car ride, and I'm there. Sure beats the eight and a half hours to Livingston, actually, nothing really beats that, but I'll take what I can get! I hope everyone is healthy and happy. More to come!

quickie

The blog's been stagnate for a bit, so I decided to post something. I took this at my in-laws house, then dropped it in photoshop, tried out it's cross processing filter, liked the results. More to come.

mad as a hatter

At the Main Street Arts Festival we take the kids to get their faces painted every year. Sorta' their one bribe to come with us and behave, "If you don't stop whining, we're NOT getting your face painted!" The usual face decor is a butterfly, a lion, Darth Maul, a skull, etc. This year they added the Mad Hatter from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. Aidan was all for it. Well, seeing as my last post was a re-imagining of the Army of Darkness movie poster, I'd stay in this spirit for another post.
How fun is that?!

army of darkness

So, check this out! If you're a regular reader, you've no doubt seen Jenny and John's engagement photos. Well, near the end of the session I asked them to strike a pose much like the movie cover/poster of the "B movie" Army Of Darkness. John's a big fan of Bruce Campbell (not sure of the spelling), the Evil Dead series, and the like. So, they posed, I shot, then went home to my computer. It was a bit of a challenge dropping them into the poster, matching the lighting, the look, adding a shot gun, edge lighting, the red glow to their clothes, etc. But, I love the final product. How freakin' awesome are they?! Anyway, thought you'd enjoy it. More posts to come, have a great weekend!

cyborg crane

Down the main highway that cuts through Mineral Wells, surrounded by lone star steak houses, abandoned gas stations and buildings, open fields and far off hills, stands this huge metal sculpture of a crane. The artist unknown, but the resulting photograph looks like something out of The Matrix, or some other syfy like film. Taken with my lensbaby and sharpened and turned sepia in photoshop.

jenny and john, take two

Here's a few pics from Jenny's second engagement session at Trinity Park (the first were at the bowling alley). I'm still working on this one particular photo we took that's a shout out to Bruce Campbell and The Army of Darkness (soon to come!). Until then...

easter

A belated Happy Easter to everyone. I took the wife and kids to Louisiana for the holiday to spend time with our families and enjoy ourselves. The Easter bunny visited the kiddos and we hid eggs and the whole nine yards. It was a great weekend. Getting back into the groove this month, I did some rockin' engagements while I was down, those'll be up soon. But 'till then, here's a little art piece slash family portrait I put together to commemorate the holiday. Post more soon.

josh

Josh, a local musician-and friend, is getting ready to release a new album and called me recently for some possible cover shots. So, always eager to get behind the camera, of course I said yes and we hit to the streets. The idea was to convey independence, a sense of change, maybe a little more edge, but letting the focus be on him and whatever avenues that are before him. So we did some shots near overpasses and roadways to sort of illustrate that idea. But, when the shoot was nearing an end, I really wanted to get some extreme close ups of him. Well, we should of just started there. I love the images. I only put one up on the blog, not because it is the best-that's a matter of opinion-but because each close up conveyed the same statement. I love this picture because it is such a strong image; he's looking right into the camera, right into your eyes, and you in turn have no choice but to look back. It works in a million different ways and no matter how you look at it, it's Josh.

the house

A new coffee shop is about to brew up something bold on the Fort Worth scene, and you should go get a cup from them! The House Coffee Bar, located at 915 Florence St. downtown (www.thehousecoffeebar.com), has their grand opening this Thursday from 11:30a.m. to 1:00p.m. They'll be serving up fresh coffee and paninis as well as live music, art, and massages...oooh-OH! right there...yeah... aaaaaaah. So what are you waiting for? Oh and one quick note: don't forget to wash your hands before you eat, because my work is on display in their bathrooms! I don't want to catch you with your pants down, but Ani Difranco sings, "Sometimes there's poetry written right on the bathroom wall." After you see my work, hopefully you'll agree.
